Boston Celtics vs. Cleveland Cavaliers: Terry Rozier, Jaylen Brown will start for Boston
The Boston Celtics will be without Kyrie Irving and Marcus Morris when they face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday, which means a pair of new faces in the starting lineup: Terry Rozier and Jaylen Brown.
The Cavaliers will also be short-handed — in addition to Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson, both of whom have missed extended time, Cedi Osman will also miss Tuesday’s action.
The starting lineup with Rozier and Brown replacing Irving and Morris has played 34 minutes together total with a net rating of 8.1. Their defensive rating is a stingy 94.7, which (in theory!) should be more than enough to put the Cavaliers in a hole to start the game. Cleveland trails two teams for the worst record in the league by just a game, but under the new flattened lottery odds, the Cavs would have an equal chance to acquire the number one pick, which is essentially the entire goal of their season.
Celtics’ Terry Rozier: Turns in lackluster start
Rozier posted eight points (3-9 FG, 2-5 3Pt), five rebounds, four assists, and two steals in 32 minutes Tuesday in the Celtics’ 103-96 win over the Cavaliers.
Filling in on the top unit for Kyrie Irving (hip) for the fourth time in seven games, Rozier had a rough outing after delivering useful lines in his previous three starts. Rozier’s poor efficiency — he’s converting field goals at a 38.1 percent clip this season and is a 35.4 percent shooter from distance — can make his scoring highly variable from game to game, even on occasions like Tuesday where he plays 30-plus minutes. His playing time and production will take a step back once Irving returns, perhaps as soon as the Celtics’ next game Thursday versus the Lakers.
