The 50-year old Michigan rocker’s run on “The Voice” was over. Then, it wasn’t. Todd Hall delivered a powerful performance in the battle round, but his coach, Blake Shelton, ended up choosing his opponent.

Todd Hall, who is from Saginaw, performed against Joei Fulco. She is from Franklin, Tennessee. The two delivered a solid duet of Tina Turner’s “The Best.” The coaches praised Hall for his range, especially the high notes.

John Legend: “Todd, I remember why I wanted you on my team. Some of these high notes you’re hitting are insane and you’re hitting them with such clarity and power. I was like, who’s singing which part?”

Shelton’s decision: “Both of you two deserve to be here. I’m just going to hope for the best here and roll the dice. The winner of this battle is Joei. “I ended up choosing her because she has so much talent and charisma about her. She has a gift that is unique.”

The save: Hall thanked the coaches and as he was walking off the stage for good, the shocking save occurred. “Blake, I just want to thank you for the opportunity. This has been a complete blessing for me. Just getting here and getting picked and everything. It’s all good.”

Kelly Clarkson hit her button to steal Hall a split second after Shelton hit his button for his only save of the season. Each coach gets one save for the entire battle round, which lasts multiple weeks. The three other coaches get an option to steal.

What’s next for Hall: He will now return later in the season for something new. It’s called a four-way knockout. Each of the four coaches’ saves will compete against each other with only one artist coming out as the winner. Shelton says he thinks Hall has a great chance to win it. “I think Todd can thrive in this four-way knockout.”
