Tom Cruise Biography

Tom Cruise is a popular American actor and was born Thomas Cruise Mapother IV on July 3, 1962, in Syracuse, New York. He is the son of Mary Lee a special education teacher and Thomas Cruise Mapother both from Louisville, Kentucky and has three sisters. His parents divorced when he was 11 and the children moved with their mother to Louisville, Kentucky and then to Glen Ridge, New Jersey.

It is here that Cruise who was at the age of 14 enrolled in a Franciscan seminary with thoughts of becoming a priest, but he left after a year. While in high school, he developed an interest in acting and abandoned his plans of becoming a priest, dropped out of school, and at age 18 headed for New York and possible acting career. After trying several auditions he landed an appearance in 1981’s ‘Endless Love’, starring as Brooke Shields and also around the same time he got a small role in the military school drama ‘Taps’.

His performance in these films caught the attention of a number of filmmakers. He later got a role in ‘Risky Business’ a film that made Tom Cruise a highly recognizable actor.

Cruise later starred in ‘Top Gun’, a film that was termed as the highest-grossing film of 1986. He went on to star in other numerous films but in was not until 1996 that Cruise hit the big screen with two huge hits blockbuster Mission: ‘Impossible’ in which the star also produced and the highly acclaimed ‘Jerry McGuire’.These two hits led to Cruise earning a second Academy Award nomination and Golden Globe for Best Actor.

In the year 2000 Tom Cruise starred in the long-awaited smash hit Mission: ‘Impossible 2’ and it was in 2003, that he traveled to Australia to shoot the $100 million action film ‘The Last Samurai’ which earned him another Golden Globe nomination.

In 2006, he returned to his role as Ethan Hunt in the third installment of the Mission Impossible film series, Mission: Impossible III which was more positively received by critics than the previous films in the series, it grossed nearly $400 million. After several years of success, Tom Cruise got his fans by surprise in 2011 with the release of Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol and thereafter  2015 delivered his usual high-energy performance for the fifth installment of his blockbuster series, Mission Impossible 5: Rogue Nation.

Cruise has numerous award under him including AFI Movie of the Year, Empire Awards Best Actor, Golden Globe Awards Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Britannia Awards Excellence in films, MTV Movie Awards Best male performance, Walk of Fame Star on the walk of fame and many other awards.

Cruise married actress Mimi Rogers on May 9, 1987, and divorced on February 4, 1990. he then met his second wife, actress Nicole Kidman, on the set of their film Days of Thunder in 1990. The couple married on December 24, 1990, they adopted two children, Isabella, and Connor Antony. In February 2001, he filed for divorce from Kidman while she was unknowingly pregnant. The pregnancy ended with a miscarriage for it was an ectopic pregnancy. He was next romantically linked with Penélope Cruz, his co-star in Vanilla Sky (2001). The relationship ended in 2004.

In April 2005, Cruise began dating actress Katie Holmes and In April 2006 their daughter Suri was born. They then got married On November 18, 2006, On June 29, 2012, Holmes filed for divorce and it worked out, he is now dating his new girlfriend Vanessa Kirby.
