Tupac Shakur was an American rapper, actor, and poet born and raised in East Harlem, New York as Tupac Amaru Shakur. He was the son of Afeni Shakur, a Black Panther activist. His family split up when he was a child, and he spent his youth living with his mother and his stepfather, Mutulu Shakur, in Baltimore, Maryland.
At the age of 19, Tupac moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue his music career. He quickly gained attention from his debut single, “Trapped”, and was signed to Interscope Records in 1991. He achieved immense success throughout his career, and he was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.
