He was born John Francis Bongiovi Jr. He formed the band in 1983. In 1989, the band went into a temporary retirement and he concentrated in his solo career. He appeared in his first movie Young Guns II which was released in 1990, and he won a golden globe award for best song Blaze of Glory. In 1997, he enjoyed further solo success when he released Destination Anywhere. The band regrouped in 2000, to record the Grammy-nominated album, Crush.
In 2002, they put out the album Bounce. Since then the band has released several more records together, including Lost Highway(2007) and What About Now (2013). The group debuted Burning Bridges (2015), the first Bon Jovi album released after Richie Sambora left.
