At Williamsville North High School, he played tight end in football and center in basketball for the Spartans athletic teams. As a junior, he recorded 36 receptions for 648 yards, seven touchdowns on offense, 73 tackles and six sacks on defense. He was named All-State second-team player and an All-Western New York first-team.
He was at first ruled ineligible by the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League after the ruling of ineligibility was overturned, he recorded eight receptions for 152 yards and four touchdowns at Woodland Hills.
