By 1975, Little had been arrested more than 26 times in 11 states for crimes including theft, assault, attempted rape, fraud and attacks on government officials. Little spent most of his time with prostitutes and pimps. Again in 1982 he was arrested in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and charged with the murder of 22-year-old prostitute Melinda LaPree, who had gone missing in September that year.
A grand jury declined to indict him for the murder of LaPree. But while under investigation Little was transferred to Florida to be brought to trial for the murder of 26-year-old Patricia Mount, whose body was found in
September 1982. Prosecution witnesses identified Little in court as a person who spent time with Mount on the night before she disappeared.
Due to mistrust of witness testimonies, Little was acquitted in January 1984 of Mount’s murder. He then moved to California, where he stayed in the vicinity of San Diego. In October 1984, Little was arrested for attacking and physically assaulting two prostitutes and was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison. He was then released in February 1987 and soon moved to Los Angeles, where he committed several murders.
He was arrested on September 5, 2012, at a homeless shelter in Louisville, Kentucky, after authorities used DNA testing to establish that he was involved in the murders of Carol Elford, killed on July 13, 1987; Audrey Nelson, killed on August 14, 1989; and Guadalupe Apodaca, killed on September 3, 1987. All three women were killed and later were found on the streets of Los Angeles.
Little was extradited to Los Angeles, where he was charged on January 7, 2013. A few months later, the police said that Little was being investigated for involvement in dozens of murders committed in the 1980s, which until then had been undisclosed. In the connection with the new circumstances in the state of Mississippi, the case of the murder of LaPree was reopened, in which Little was acquitted in 1984. In total, Little was tested for involvement in 60 murders of women committed in the territory of many US states.
US detectives grill serial killer Samuel Little, close cold cases
Keep Samuel talking, don’t interrupt him and, no matter what, don’t ask why he killed his victims. The instructions which were given to Texas Ranger James Holland gave to the dozens of homicide detectives around the country when they got their moment with Samuel Little, hoping to solve decades-old cold cases and bring back answers to desperate families from the man the FBI identified this month as the most prolific serial killer in US history.
Little ultimately spilled forth with chilling confessions, claiming he killed 93 women in all between 1970 and 2005 and smilingly recounting the details with startling clarity. But to get what they needed, detectives had to employ a certain amount of psychology, some of which made them uncomfortable, such as laughing along with him or putting up with his flirting.
David Denmark the Miami-Dade police homicide detective and his partner interviewed Little last October about two murders in the Miami area from the 1970s. Holland had told them what to expect.
“You have to change your attitude and you have to become his friend,” Denmark said. “And you have to laugh with him and make fun of his victims sometimes, sort of like, ‘Yeah, I guess at that point she deserved it.’ Even though you hate saying it. You want him to think, ‘These guys are pretty cool’ to keep him talking.”
For Denmark, Little recalled his first victim, 33-year-old Mary Broseley, saying that he would never again try to bury a body in Florida’s hard limestone soil and that he had to leave part of her leg exposed. Little also confessed to killing 25-year-old Angela Chapman in 1976, saying he started to drown her, then pulled her out of the water and strangled her. He remembered Broseley’s flowered sundress and how he played with her chain necklace and marveled at her beautiful neck before strangling her.

The FBI on Tuesday released sketches the 78-year-old recently made of women he claims he killed, including three from Atlanta. Little, a lifelong drifter and failed boxer, was born in Taylor County in Middle Georgia and, in recent interviews from a Texas jail cell, has claimed that he murdered 90 people — all but two of them women — across the country, starting in 1970.

Samuel Little Most Prolific Murder In USA
From 1970 to 2005 the police have matched Samuel, 79 to 50 cases so far. He has been serving life in prison since 2012 for the murders of three women. Little targeted vulnerable individuals, mostly black women, many of whom were sex workers or drug users, officials say.
A former competitive boxer, Little would knock his victims out with punches before strangling them – meaning that there were not always “obvious signs” that the person had been brutally murdered.
Some of these deaths were never investigated by the FBI as a result, and many deaths were incorrectly determined to be overdoses or accidental. Some bodies have never been found, the agency said. In a statement on Monday, the FBI said its analysts believe “all of his confessions are credible”. “For many years, he believed he would not be caught because he thought no one was accounting for his victims,” FBI crime analyst Christie Palazzolo said in the statement. “Even though Samuel is already in prison, the FBI believes it is important to seek justice for each victim – to close every case possible.” Law enforcement is still working to verify the remaining 43 cases he confessed to

Samuel Little Sketches
The FBI James Holland has heard confessions from many, many murderers. But now one is telling the Texas Ranger he’s committed 93 murders himself, making him perhaps the most prolific serial killer in American history. The race is on to identify all of the 93 women Samuel Little says he murdered, while the 79-year-old remains alive and continues to cooperate.
Holland tells Sharyn Alfonsi in his first television interview how he got Little to open up about his victims for a story to be broadcast on “60 Minutes” Sunday, October 6, at 7 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
Information from the FBI has gathered from Little has led to 50 cold case murders being solved. There are more Little says he committed that if resolved would give victims’ relatives answers and exonerate any innocent people who may have been wrongly convicted for the murders.
Holland says he broke through to Little by agreeing with him that he was not a rapist, but truly a killer. This tack seemed to unlock the place where he kept detailed, almost photographic memories of every woman he killed. Holland describes Little’s process, “There are indications of visualization, of when he’s thinking about a crime scene. He’ll start stroking his face. And as he’s starting to picture a victim, you’ll see him look out and up.” “And you can tell he has this revolving carousel of victims, and it’s just spinning, and he’s waiting for it to stop at the one that he wants to talk about,” Holland says.
Samuel Little Portraits
James Holland has released the portraits a serial killer drew of his victims in the hope that they can be identified. Little, 78, confessed to killing 90 people over three decades last year, while already serving three life sentences for murder. The killings took place across the US between 1970 and 2005. Investigators say he targeted “marginalized and vulnerable women”, and that some of their bodies went unidentified and deaths uninvestigated. Having heard all of his confessions, they believe he could be one of the most prolific serial killers in US history.
Little, a former competitive boxer would knock his victims out with punches before strangling them – meaning that there were not always “obvious signs” that the person had been killed. Now, they are hoping that their drawings can help them to finally find out who the victims were so that their families can be notified.
“With no stab marks or bullet wounds, many of these deaths were not classified as homicides but attributed to drug overdoses, accidents, or natural causes,” the FBI said in its initial report in November last year.
