Sia Furler Biography
Sia Furler born Sia Kate Isobelle Furler, is an Australian singer, songwriter, record producer and music video director. She started her career as a singer in the acid jazz band Crisp in the mid-1990s in Adelaide.
In 1997, when Crisp disbanded, she released her debut studio album titled OnlySee in Australia, but it did not sell well. She moved to London, England, and provided lead vocals for the British duo Zero 7.
In 2000, Sia released her second studio album, Healing Is Difficult, the following year, but was displeased with the promotion of the record. She released her next studio album, Colour the Small One, in 2004, but it struggled to connect with a mainstream audience.
Sia relocated to New York City in 2005 and toured in the United States. Her fourth and fifth studio albums, Some People Have Real Problems and We Are Born, were released in 2008 and 2010, respectively.
She took a hiatus from performing, during which she focused on songwriting for other artists, producing successful collaborations “Titanium” (with David Guetta), “Diamonds” (with Rihanna) and “Wild Ones” (with Flo Rida).
In 2014, Sia finally broke through as a solo recording artist when her sixth studio album, 1000 Forms of Fear, debuted at No 1 in the U.S. Billboard 200 and generated the top-ten single “Chandelier” and a trilogy of music videos starring child dancer Maddie Ziegler.
In 2016, she released her seventh studio album This Is Acting, which spawned her first Hot 100 number one single, “Cheap Thrills”. The same year, Sia gave her Nostalgic for the Present Tour, which incorporated performance art elements. Sia has received accolades, including ARIA Awards and an MTV Video Music Award.

Sia Furler Music
Sia Kate Isobelle Furler was born on 18 December 1975 in Adelaide, South Australia. Her father, Phil Colson, is a musician, and her mother, Loene Furler, is an art lecturer. Sia is the niece of actor-singer Kevin Colson. Sia said that as a child she imitated the performing style of Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and Sting, whom she cites as early influences.
She attended Adelaide High School. In the mid-1990s, Sia started a career as a singer in the local acid jazz band Crisp. Sia collaborated with the band and contributed vocals to their album Word and the Deal (1996) and EP Delirium (1997). In 1997 Crisp disbanded, and Sia released her debut studio album, OnlySee, on Flavoured Records, in Australia, on 23 December.
The album sold 1,200 copies. Unlike her later albums, OnlySee was marketed under her full name, “Sia Furler”. It was produced by Jesse Flavell. The song “Soon” was re-recorded by Sia as “Sober and Unkissed” and featured on her 2001 album Healing Is Difficult.

Sia Furler Married | Sia Furler And Husband
Following the disbandment of Crisp in 1997, Sia decided to move to London to follow her relationship with boyfriend Dan Pontifex. Several weeks later, while on a stopover in Thailand, she received the news that Pontifex had died after being in a car accident in London. She returned to Australia, but soon she received a call from one of Pontifex’s former housemates, who invited her to stay in London.
Her 2001 album Healing Is Difficult lyrically deals with Pontifex’s death: “I was pretty fucked up after Dan died. I couldn’t really feel anything. I could intellectualise a lot of stuff; that I had a purpose, that I was loved, but I couldn’t actually feel anything.” Sia recalled the effect of his death in a 2007 interview for The Sunday Times: “We were all devastated, so we got shit-faced on drugs and Special Brew. Unfortunately, that bender lasted six years for me.”
In 2008, Sia discussed her sexual orientation in interviews and announced her relationship with JD Samson; they broke up in 2011. When asked about her sexuality in 2009, she said, “I’ve always dated boys and girls and anything in between. I don’t care what gender you are, it’s about people. … I’ve always been… well, flexible is the word I would use.”
Sia has suffered from depression, addictions to painkillers and alcohol, and had contemplated suicide, going as far as to write a suicide note. In 2010, Sia’s official website announced that all scheduled promotional events and shows had been cancelled due to her poor health.
She cited extreme lethargy and panic attacks and considered retiring permanently from performing and touring. According to her Twitter account, she was diagnosed with Graves’ disease – an autoimmune disorder characterized by an over-active thyroid. Later that year, in an ARIA Awards interview, Sia said her health was improving after rest and thyroid hormone replacement therapy.
Sia married documentary filmmaker Erik Anders Lang at her home in Palm Springs, California, in August 2014. The couple announced their separation in December 2016. During a 2014 appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Sia was asked if she was religious, to which she responded, “I believe in a Higher Power and it’s called ‘Whatever Dude’ and he’s a queer, surfing Santa that’s a bit like my grandpa, so yes.” In the same interview, she stated that she is a feminist and that Whatever Dude divinely inspired the lyrics she wrote for Rihanna’s song “Diamonds”. One of Sia’s tattoos, on her hand, reads “Whatever Dude”.
Sia Furler We Are Born
We Are Born is the fifth studio album by Australian singer-songwriter Sia. It was released on June 18, 2010. The album is more upbeat than her previous work, which she partly attributes to her relationship with JD Samson as well as her childhood influences Cyndi Lauper and Madonna.

Sia Furler The Fight
Sia Furler Drugs
Her battle with addiction and depression while struggling with the pressures of fame has been well documented recently following some frank interviews.
And now Australian songstress Sia Furler has revealed further details of the vices she turned to in her darker days, and her path to sobriety thereafter.
‘I was a pill-popper,’ the Chandelier hitmaker, 39, admitted to OK! magazine, naming alcohol abuse as another habit.
Her darkest point came in 2010, when Sia wrote a suicide note and prepared to end her own life, until a timely phone call from a friend caused her to reconsider.
‘There was a small voice [in me] that wanted to live,’ she told OK! magazine.
‘And the only thing I knew how to do was to call someone who was also in the program, and then I just did what I was told and I’m still sober now, so I am really grateful. I’d look at other people and think, “They look fine and happy; they even have families and have kids, how do they do it? They seem to be enjoying this ride called life.”‘
Sia made headlines with her unusual antics at the Grammy awards last week, where she hid her face in a platinum wig and sang with her back turned to the audience.
Her refusal to promote her latest album, posing for magazine covers with a paper bag over her head, and inviting high-profile friends, including Lena Denham and Kristen Wiig to join her onstage during performances appear to only attract more attention for the camera-shy singer-songwriter.
But it is antics such as these that perhaps allow the Adelaide-born star to deal with the unwanted spotlight that comes with a chart-topping song, as well as turning to charitable causes such as dog rescue, which Sia says is part of her recovery program.
She also takes solace in a higher power she dubs ‘Whatever dude’, which she has tattooed on her hand.
With her recovery on track, the life she once saw others enjoying that seemed unattainable appears to be coming together for Sia. She married documentary maker Erik Anders Lang last year, and says she dreams of a baby.
Sia has previously spoken of her discomfort with fame. ‘It’s horrible, I just wanted to have a private life,’ She told the New York Times last year.
‘Once, as my friend was telling me they had cancer, someone came up and asked, in the middle of the conversation, if they could take a photograph with me.’
The darkest point in 2010 saw the songstress come dangerously close to ending her life. She went so far as to leave instructions and pen a suicide note as she considered taking a concoction of narcotics.
Uncomfortable in the spotlight, the singer relied on alcohol to get her through live shows whilst on her US tour and later became addicted to antidepressants and pain medication including Xanax and OxyContin, after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Sadly, her battle with alcoholism and depression intensified after her boyfriend was hit by a taxi driver and killed just days before she was due to visit him in London.
Two months before her September suicide attempt, Sia phoned her drug dealer and ‘ordered “two of everything”, except meth and heroin’.
Planning to check into a cheap hotel, she left instructions for her dog walker and the hotel manager, writing: ‘I’ve killed myself and I don’t want you to have to suffer seeing my dead body.’
A timely call from a friend prompted a re-evaluation and Sia decided to enroll in a 12-step recovery program and take a break from her solo career.
Sia only returned to the spotlight in 2014 after working exclusively as a songwriter and released her sixth studio album 1000 Forms Of Fear, to much critical acclaim in July.
Her first solo project since 2010, the debut single Chandelier, rocketed to the top of the US charts and has been performed by the singer on a host of talk shows and awards ceremonies including most recently, at the Grammys.
The music video, that features Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler, has garnered an incredible 500 million views on Vevo and won her a string of nominations at the MTV VMAs, EMAs, ARIAs and Grammys.
Her recently released follow up hit Elastic Heart, has caused just as much of a stir, with the music video again featuring Maddie who teams up with a shirtless Shia LaBeouf, 28, to wrestle in a cage.
She was forced to address the backlash over pedophilia concerns and said on Twitter in January:
‘I anticipated some ‘pedophelia!!!’ Cries for this video. All I can say is Maddie and Shia are two of the only actors I felt could play these two warring ‘Sia’ self states.
‘I apologize to those who feel triggered by Elastic Heart, my intention was to create some emotional content, not to upset anybody.’
Following it’s release on January 7, the controversial clip has attracted in excess of 100 million views on YouTube.
Born to parents Phil Colson and Loene Furler from rockabilly band The Soda Jerx, creativity is in Sia’s blood and she now says she hopes to focus her attention on creating visual art – such as her music videos and striking live performances – to accompany her already renowned singing and songwriting.
The performer, who now has a reported net worth of AUD$20 million, first rose to notoriety as a songwriter, penning hits including Rhianna’s Diamonds, Beyonce’s Pretty Hurts, Britney Spears’ Perfume and Flo Rida’s Wild Ones.
She also co-wrote and featured on David Guetta’s mammoth hit Titanium, which she says was released without her knowledge.
The hitmaker had recorded her own version of the song intended only as a guide for the female vocalist chosen for the part, but producers liked it so much they released it to the public in a move Sia now confesses was great for her career.
Much prior to that, the Australian made a cameo appearance as a wedding singer on popular soap Home And Away.
At the time, the ARIA winner was just 22 and only had her debut album Only See, under her belt.
She was featured standing on the sand at the iconic Palm Beach, and sang her single How To Breathe, which she had written for the show.
More recently, Sia has collaborated with fellow Australian Kylie Minogue on her new album Kiss Me Once.
