Steven Wright Biography
Steven Wright, born Steven Richard Wright, is a professional baseball player from the United States. He currently plays as a pitcher with the Boston Red Sox of the Major League Baseball(MLB).
He both bats and throws the ball with his right hand. Currently, he is known as MLB’s only active knuckleball user.

He attended the University of Hawaii before he was drafted by the Cleveland Indians. In 2006 while at Hawaii, he was named a second-team All-American as a junior. He registered an 11-2 record with a 2.30 ERA in 110 innings. He won a Cape Cod Baseball League championship with the Orleans Cardinals in 2005.
He played minor league baseball with the Lake County Captains, Kinston Indians, Akron Aeros, and Colombus Clippers from 2007 to 2012. All teams were affiliates of the Cleaveland Indians.
In 2008, while with the Akron Aeros, he pitched a career-high 751⁄3 innings. He has a 90-mph fastball. However, he turned to the knuckleball as his main pitch in the 2011 season as a joint decision between him and the Indians.
The Indians traded him to the Boston Red Sox on the 31st of July in 2012. This was in exchange for Lars Anderson at the trade deadline. He was called up to the major leagues in April of 2013, this was after an injury to Joel Hanrahan, Boston’s relief pitcher. His debut to the major leagues was in a match against former team, Indians. He, however, saw no action in the three-game series.

He earned his first major league win against the Seattle Mariners on the 11th of July in 2013. He picked up his second on the 1st of August after his team came from behind to win against the Mariners. He made four MLB appearances with one start during the 2013 season.
He began the 2014 season with Triple-A Pawtucket. He was recalled to Boston on the 17th of August. He appeared six times for the team, starting once. He recorded 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA in 21 innings pitched.
On the 10th of April in 2015 in a game against the Yankees, he became the winning pitcher after five innings of relief. The game was the longest ever played at the Yankees Stadium ending after 6 hours and 49 minutes. In addition, there was a 16-minute delay as some faulty stadium lights went off during the 12th inning. He finished his MLB season with a 5-4 record, a 4.09 ERA and 72 2⁄3 innings pitched.
He pitched a complete game for the first time in his MLB career as the Red Sox beat the Yankees 5-1 on the 6th of May in 2016. He earned his first calling to the All-Star game that year. He was placed on the 15-day injury list as he had bursitis in his right shoulder on the 14th of August. He recorded a 13-6 record and 3.33 ERA after pitching 156 2/3 innings in 24 starts of the 2016 season.
It was announced on the 4th of May in 2017 that he would undergo left knee surgery for cartilage restoration. This ended his season. He made five starting appearances with a 1-3 record and 8.25 ERA in 24 innings pitched that season.

The MLB announced his 15 game suspension, on the 23rd of March in 2018, for his violation of the league’s personal conduct policy. On the 28th of April, the suspension took effect after he completed a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket.
Following the completion of his suspension, the Red Sox activated him on the 14th of May. After 10 appearances that included 4 starts, he was placed on the disabled list on the 26th of June following a left knee injury. On the 2nd of July, he received a PRP injection in the knee. On the 28th of August, he was sent to a rehab assignment with Tripple-A Pawtucket. He returned from the disabled list on the 1st of September. He pitched 52 2/3 innings in 20 appearances(4 starts) recording a 3-1 record and 2.68 ERA for the 2018 season.
He won his second career World Series championship after the Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Dodgers.
He signed a one-year, $1.375 million contract with the Red Sox on the 11th of January in 2019.
Steven Wright Suspension
On the 6th of March in 2019, he was given an 80 match suspension after he tested positive for PED. The announcement was made by the MLB commissioner’s office. This was after Wright tested positive for Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide 2(GHRP-2). The drug is classified under performance-enhancing substances. Via the MLB Players Association, the knuckleballer released a statement denying ingestion of any performance-enhancing drug. This is his second career suspension. His first was last season, where he served a 15-game suspension for violating the MLB’s domestic violence policy.
