A second-generation Vietnamese-American originally from the Bay Area, Van is thrilled to be back in NorCal. Van’s journalism career spans more than 15 years with several stops across the country. She comes to ABC10 from NY1, where she covered news in New York City.
Van has also covered some of the country’s most high-profile news events, such as the year 2018 U.S. mail bombing attempts, the sentencing of Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, and the year 2017 New York City Westside highway terrorist attack.
After earning Van’s Master’s Degree at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, Van worked behind the scenes at CNN’s New York City Bureau for prime time shows, like Anderson Cooper 360 as well as Piers Morgan Tonight. Van then jumped from the media capital of the world to Bismarck, N.D. to work as an anchor as well as a reporter at KFYR-TV. Van’s next stop was just over the Sierra at KRNV in Reno, Nev. Van Tieu (AAJA-New York) is the weekend anchor as well as a medical reporter for NBC affiliate KFYR in Bismarck, North Dakota. Prior to KFYR, she was a one-man-band news assistant for NY1 and an associate producer for CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight and Anderson Cooper 360 in New York City.
