Victoria Abril: “The only damn decade is forty”
Victoria Abril (Madrid, 1959) does not know the crisis of age. Or yes, but he got over it a while ago. “The only damn decade is forty,” he says, “because only you get the bad ones, which are fun two or three, and the sour, which your husband leaves for a younger one.” “In the cinema,” he continues, “80 percent are men, and of course, they do not know what to do with you just when you’re at the best moment . This is so and forever will be ». She overcame the pothole singing: “With music I was the happiest woman in the northern hemisphere. I do not remember anything stronger. The public is the best lover I have ever had ».
Currently, April triumphs in France with the series «Clem», a comedy that has been broadcast since 2010 without any channel having brought it closer to our audience, which will be able to see «Inspector Marleau», which can be seen on Calle 13. The Spanish is the central character of the third episode. “She lives hidden in a convent, until the inspector arrives investigating the suicide of a young woman.”
«With the ass in the air»
For an actress who has shown so much, the role is especially demanding, although it seems paradoxical. The habit highlights his face and denies him the opportunity to hide or look away: “It is true that when you’re a nun you stay a little with your ass in the air. I recognize that I spent a lot of time studying that framework , because there is nothing, makeup, or fringes behind which to hide. ”
On the other hand, “after 40 years of work it is very rare to find papers that you have not done”. « Me, nun! I still have the feeling of the first time, although at this age of mine it is no longer the first, but the last, which has the same intensity ».
At one point, her character confesses her Spanish origin and says that the accent has betrayed her a bit. “And he keeps betraying me, after 30 years”, although it is often an advantage: “After almost 20 years trying to speak French, I often nag, on television they told me not to sing the accent, because people love it . I’ve even finished teaching them Spanish. Now everyone knows how to say “Of course.” There are 60 million French people, but Spanish people who speak French like me, me ».
“I stayed for love,” says Abril, “after making two children, so that they were at their father’s side and with the idea of working where the work appeared. But this year the good is in Spain. Now I start doing the miniseries “Días de Navidad”, by Pau Freixas , and in April I start filming a feature film called “La lista”, with María León ».
Forty years after “La barraca”, television continues to give him joys: “Do you know the movies I have to do to gather the 10 million viewers of the first episode of” Clem “? About ten, thinking that they are all successful. ” Perhaps the perfect combination would be a series by Almodóvar : “Huy, I do not think so. It seems impossible to me. The directors do not know as much, but the actors do have to do television because that’s where they offer better roles. “
