Russo is a professional wrestling booker, writer, and pundit. He is notable for his tenures with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA, now Impact Wrestling) in creative roles. He also occasionally made appearances as an on-screen authority figure, and professional wrestler, in WCW and TNA.
Russo was hired as a freelance writer for WWF Magazine in 1992, and would later become an editor in 1994 under the pseudonym of Vic Venom. In 1996, he was promoted to the WWF Creative Team, then headed by Vince McMahon, Jim Cornette, Jim Ross, Pat Patterson, and a few others. Under Russo’s guidance, the WWF began to produce more adult-oriented programming, which helped the company win the Monday Night Wars against WCW in the late 1990s.
