Will Peltz Is Breaking the “Actor/Model” Mold
Will Peltz is having a moment. If you’ve turned on Netflix lately or paid attention to the front row in the past few weeks, you’ve likely seen the handsome rising star. His most recent acting credits include a standout role in the coming-of-age drama Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, and he’s taken to the runway as a model for labels such as Zadig & Voltaire.
Indeed, Peltz is part of the new generation of polymaths who move effortlessly between the fashion sphere and Hollywood, two seemingly different worlds. Though the 32-year-old would argue they’re even closer than you think. “Even when I walk in fashion shows, I’m acting in the sense that I change my entire look and vibe to fit the brand that I’m wearing,” he says. “You don’t represent yourself in the fashion world. People will use your face and body to transform you into a different person, and it’s my job to step into that role and fulfill their vision.”
The thrill of being on the runway is an added bonus—even if the prospect of walking in front of hundreds of strangers can prove daunting. “It’s a lot more intimidating than your traditional acting roles,” says Peltz, who compares the experience to performing in front of a live audience. “You only have around 30 seconds or so to get it right. You have to make your walk convincing and make the clothes look damn good—but it’s so gratifying when you’re off the catwalk. The only thing I wish is that those walks lasted longer.”
This season Peltz has had a chance to view the shows from the front row, taking in the new collections at Stella McCartney, Dior, and Celine, where he was part of a group of cool kids cheering from the sidelines. A chameleon who can go from a tuxedo one moment to leather jackets and jeans the next, Peltz was especially impressed by Slimane’s debut for the French house. “The show was incredible, Celine as only Hedi could do it,” says Peltz. “[He] has a very specific aesthetic as a designer who I almost model my own style after. One look at a piece and you can tell that it was either created by him, or influenced by his work.”
With the monthlong round of shows coming to a close, Peltz is turning his focus towards the silver screen, gearing up for his next major project: Oscar nominee Andrew Bowler’s sci-fi romance, Time Freak. “[When I started] I wanted to be able to tell other people’s stories and understand different perspectives that I either hadn’t thought of or maybe totally disagreed with. Actors have to put their feet in another person’s shoes, both literally and metaphorically, in order to succeed,” he says. “There are a lot more stories that I want to tell through film, maybe even my own one day.”
