Yoko Ono Beatles
The Beatles were a 1960 formed English rock band in Liverpool. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr’s line-up led the band to be considered the foremost and most influential in history. With a sound rooted in skiffle, beat and rock and roll in the 1950s, the band was an integral part of the evolution of pop music into an art form and the development of the 1960s counterculture.
In a car accident in June 1969, Lennon and Ono were wounded, partly by recording Abbey Road. A bed with a microphone was then installed in the studio, according to journalist Barry Miles, so that Ono could make artistic comments about the album. Miles thought Ono’s continued presence in the studio during the latter part of the Beatles ‘ career put strain on Lennon’s relationship with the other band members.
After taking one of his chocolate digestive biscuits without asking, George Harrison verbally attacked her. The English press dubbed her “the woman who broke up the Beatles,” but Ono said that without her direct involvement, the Beatles broke up themselves.
Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band
The Plastic Ono Band was a rock band formed by John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1969 as a vehicle for their collaborative and solo projects. In 1968, Lennon and Ono had started a personal and artistic relationship, working together on several experimental releases. After their marriage in 1969, they decided to give credit to a conceptual and collaborative vehicle, Plastic Ono Band, for all their future endeavors.
Yoko Ono Grapefruit
Another seminal piece of conceptual art is Ono’s small book Grapefruit. The book was first published in 1964 and reads as a set of instructions that complete the work of art, either literally or in the participant’s imagination.
One example is “Hide and Seek Piece: Hide until everyone goes home. Hide until everyone forgets you. Hide until everyone dies.” Grapefruit was published several times, mostly distributed in 1971 by Simon & Schuster, who reproduced it in 2000.
