Björn Ulvaeus Biography
Björn Ulvaeus (Björn Kristian Ulvaeus) is a Swedish songwriter and producer born on 25 April 1945 in Gothenburg, Sweden. He is a member of the Swedish musical group ABBA, and co-composer of the musicals Chess, Kristina från Duvemåla, and Mamma Mia! He is also a co owner of NoteHeads, a Swedish company which publishes the music notation program Igor Engraver.
Ulvaeus co-produced the film Mamma Mia! with fellow ABBA member and close friend Benny Andersson. He is the son to Anna Ulvaeus and Erik Gunnar Ulvaeus. He attended Lund University where he studied business and law after doing his military service with comedian Magnus Holmström.
Björn Ulvaeus ABBA
Ulvaeus is a member of a Swedish pop group ABBA which formed in Stockholm in 1972 by Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. Björn Ulvaeus and Andersson met in June 1966, and they both started writing songs together, their first being “Isn’t It Easy To Say”, eventually recorded by the Hep Stars. The two continued teaming up for music, helping out each other’s bands in the recording studio, and adding guitar or keyboards respectively to the recordings. After ABBA, Ulvaeus and Andersson created the musicals Chess, a collaboration with lyricist Tim Rice, Kristina från Duvemåla and Mamma Mia!
Together with Andersson, Ulvaeus was nominated for the Drama Desk Award in the category “Outstanding Music” (for the musical Chess), and for a Tony Award in a category “Best Orchestrations” (for the musical Mamma Mia!). Original cast recordings of both musicals were nominated for a Grammy Award.
For the 2004 semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul, thirty years after ABBA had won the 1974 contest in Brighton, UK, Ulvaeus appeared briefly in a special comedy video made for the interval act, entitled “Our Last Video”. Each of the four members of the group appeared briefly in cameo roles, as did others such as Cher and Rik Mayall. The video was not included in the official DVD release of the Eurovision Contest, but was issued as a separate DVD release. It was billed as the first time the four had worked together since the group split. In fact, they each filmed their appearances separately.

ABBA reunion 2018: What do they look like now? Bjorn, Benny, Agnetha and Anni-Frid return
Source: www.express.co.uk | Updated: Apr 27, 2018
ABBA have set the world alight with news that they are releasing new music for the first time in 35 years.
The quartet’s two new songs are due for release later this year, after Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad reunited in the studio.
They said in a statement: “The decision to go ahead with the exciting ABBA avatar tour project had an unexpected consequence.
“We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio.
“So we did. And it was like time had stood still and that we had only been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyful experience!”
They continued: “It resulted in two new songs and one of them I Still Have Faith In You will be performed by our digital selves in a TV special produced by NBC and the BBC aimed for broadcasting in December.
“We may have come of age, but the song is new. And it feels good.”
The statement – issued to the band’s Instagram – was signed off from all four members and published today from Stockholm, Sweden.
The quartet have sold hundreds of millions of records in their time together, and are firmly established as one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
They won the Eurovision Song Contest in the UK, from the Brighton Dome, back in 1974, and their hits inspired the West End phenomenon Mamma Mia! – which went on to become a record-shattering film.
Its sequel – Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again – is due this summer.
News of their new material has sent them shooting onto the UK’s Twitter Trending list, keeping up even with the announcement of the Royal Baby name.
They still, however, are reluctant to perform together.
