Alan Shope Leaves KAKE

On September 16, 2009, it was announced that the Wichita native was no longer going to be part of KAKE, Channel 10. Shope who had served in the station for almost nine years withdrew from the station due to a contract dispute. “It was just a simple contract issue that we couldn’t work out,” says Shope.

He continued to state that his reason for him not to continue working there was not the issue of money or something, “I was not asking for money,” he says. “I’ve never asked for a raise at KAKE TV.”

It turned out that Shope returned to the station to be closer to his father, George, but upon his death in the previous year, 2008, he says, “I really was looking to move on anyways. “It’s not that big of an issue for me.”

KAKE marketing director Bryan Frye won’t comment on Shope’s departure because he said that that was a personnel issue. Bryan that day after Shope’s leave stated to make it official that the station was looking for either a new sports director or reporter. “At this point, we’re looking for the best person possible.”
