Golota is a Polish former professional boxer who contested from 1992 to 2013. Golota contested four times for a heavyweight world title, and as an amateur won a bronze medal in the heavyweight division at the 1988 Olympics. He was disqualified twofold against Riddick Bowe for repeated low blows in fights that he was winning.
Golota won his first 27 fights, and 24 knockouts, and made his professional debut in February 1992. In 1996, Golota contested against Lennox Lewis for the WBC heavyweight title though he was knocked out in the first round.
In 1997, Golota contested against Riddick Bowe in a highly predicted fight. He was winning the fight effortlessly but was disqualified in the ninth round for repeated low blows. In 1999, Golota and Riddick Bowe had a rematch and Golota was disqualified once again for low blows. In 2000, Golota faced Mike Tyson for the WBA heavyweight title though he resigned in the third round due to a shoulder injury.
Golota retired in 2013, with a total of record of 41-9-1, with 33 knockouts.
