Kenny was born on November 1, 1963, in Culpeper, Virginia, United States. He was raised by his father William M. “Bill” Alphin and his mother Mary Alphin on a farm in Culpeper, VA. He grew up with his three siblings Charleene who is married to her husband Dave Wine of Baltimore, Robert Alphin of Centerville, and Wallace Alphin who is married to his wife Donna of Haymarket.

Career
Kenny started his career in the early 90s, when he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a music career. In 1999, he released his debut solo album, Live a Little. In 2001, Kenny met John Rich and they formed the duo Big & Rich. In 2004, Big & Rich released their debut album, Horse of a Different Color which generated hit singles like Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy), and Lost in This Moment.
