Big Khali (born Dalip Singh Rana), popularly known by his ring name The Great Khali, is an Indian-born American retired professional wrestler, wrestling promoter, and actor. He is widely known for during his time in WWE where he became the first Indian-born World Heavyweight Champion in history. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2021. In 2014, he was ranked as the 8th tallest professional wrestler in history.
Khali, coming from a humble background in the Dhiraina Village of Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, used to do odd jobs to make ends meet. He worked as a security guard in Shimla where he caught the eye of a police officer from the neighboring state of Punjab, who had previously helped employees become international sportspersons, and got him inducted into the Punjab Police in 1993.
Khali was reluctant to leave Himachal Pradesh but his brother was also offered the job and they went together. When he landed in Punjab’s Jalandhar, he trained at the local gyms during his leisure time to become a wrestler.

Khali was born on 27 August 1972, in Dhiraina, Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh. He quit school before even finishing standard II because his family could not afford the fees of the school. Since then, he did not seek any educational qualification.
Rise to Fame
Khali made his professional wrestling debut in 2000. Before embarking on his professional wrestling career, he was an Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Punjab Police. He has appeared in four Hollywood films, two Bollywood films, and several television shows. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as a member of the 2021 class.
However, Khali began his career as a police officer in the Punjab state police. He thereafter joined the world of professional wrestling in 2000 when he was located by a talent scout for All Pro Wrestling (APW), an advancement based in California, USA and trained at the APW Boot Camp and made his wrestling debut in October 2000.
