John Nord is an American retired professional wrestler who was born and brought up in St. Cloud, Minnesota, United States of America. He’s famously known for his appearance with the American Wrestling Association(AWA) and World Class Championship Wrestling(WCCW) in the ’80s as Nord the Barbarian and Yukon John.

Early Life and Education

Nord was born on October 18, 1959, in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He attended St. Cloud Cathedral High School, where he played , basketball, and baseball. After graduating from high school, he joined the University of Minnesota, where he played football for two years. He then transferred to Montana State University, where he played football for two more years.

After graduating from Montana State, Nord was drafted by the New Jersey Generals of the United States Football League (USFL). He played for the Generals for one season before being released. He then turned to professional wrestling.

Nord trained to wrestle under Eddie Sharkey. He debuted in late 1984 under the ring name “The Barbarian” for Mid-South Wrestling, where he was managed by Skandor Akbar. He also worked for New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Rise To Fame

Nord began his career in the American Wrestling Association (AWA) in the year 1986, where he wrestled under the name “Nord the Barbarian.”
