Billy Porter is an American Broadway theater performer, singer, and actor best known for his work as a theatrical singer in Broadway productions such as Grease and Smokey Joe’s Cafe and for his song Love Is On The Way’ on the soundtrack to the film First Wives’ Club, in 1996.
Porter starred in the revival of Grease on Broadway in 1994. He has also appeared in Topdog / Underdog at the City Theater (2004), Jesus Christ Superstar and Dreamgirls at the 2004 Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, and the song cycles Myths and Hymns and Songs for a New World (Off-Broadway, 1995).
Porter wrote and performed in his one-person autobiographical series, Ghetto Hero (The Guy That I Am) in February and March 2005 at Joe’s Pub in New York City. In September 2010 Porter appeared as Belize in the 20th Anniversary production of Tony Kushner’s Angels in America at Signature Theater Company.
