Porter shot to fame in 2008 as she joined the cast of the soap opera Hollyoaks on Channel 4. She played the character, Theresa McQueen. She appeared on the single “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper in 2010. The song was released in aid of charity, Cancer Research UK’s campaign “Race for Life”. In the same year, she appeared in the issue of Sugar magazine.

She took part in Born to Shine on ITV in August 2011. Unfortunately, she did not get to the finals but she got to learn how to street dance. She was confirmed to be a participant and contestant in 2012, on the seventh series of Dancing on Ice. Her partner was Matt Evers from America. She got to the finals and finished second behind Emmerdale actor Matthew Wolfenden.

In 2013, Porter chose to leave Hollyoaks at the end of her contract. She then appeared on the final series of Dancing On Ice in January 2014. She was paired with French ice dancer Sylvain Longchambon but they were the first to be voted off the series. She then made a comeback to Hollyoaks, according to an announcement made in April.

She is a presenter on the Nintendo Girls Club. She chose to leave Hollyoaks again in July 2015. The final scenes involving her character aired on March 11, 2016. In November 2015, Porter took part in the fifteenth series of ITV show I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!. She finished in 5th position on the show. Porter was cast as Miss Croft in 2016 in a reboot episode of the series Are You Being Served?. She also became the new face of the UK advertising campaign for the skincare brand Proactiv.
