Novakovic was born on 12 November 1981, in Belgrade, Serbia (then part of Yugoslavia). She comes from a Serbian family, and her father, Radovan Novakovic, is a Serbian diplomat. When Novakovic was seven years old, her family migrated to Australia, and they settled in Sydney.
In Australia, Novakovic attended The McDonald College, a performing arts school in Sydney, where she developed her interest and talent in acting. After completing high school, she enrolled at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney, one of Australia’s most prestigious acting schools.
