Bruce Karsh is an American investor and former lawyer. He the president and co-Founder of Oaktree Capital Management, L.P., an institutional money management firm formed in 1995.
He also serves as a portfolio manager for Oaktree’s distressed debt funds and is actively involved in managing the firm. Prior to co-founding Oaktree, Mr. Karsh was a Managing Director of TCW and its affiliate, TCW Asset Management Company, and the portfolio manager of the Special Credits Funds for seven years.

Bruce Karsh Education
In 1974, he graduated from Ladue Horton Watkins High School in St. Louis. In 1977, Karsh earned an A.B. degree in economics from Duke University where he graduated summa cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Before working at O’Melveny and Myers, Mr. Karsh clerked for the Honorable Anthony M. Kennedy, then of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and retired Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Karsh holds an A.B. degree in economics summa cum laude from Duke University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
