Nashville Mayor Megan Barry had resigned for embezzlement on March 6, 2018. Following his resignation, a special election was triggered. The Davidson County Election Commission saw it fit and fixed May 24 for the election. This was just after a legal challenge over the initial August 2 ballot date.
