Carolyn Clifford is an American reporter and anchor working for WXYZ-TV at Channel 7 News in Detroit. She anchors the 4, 6, 7 pm and 11 pm newscast alongside Stephen Clark. Before joining WXYZ-TV, Clifford was working in Pittsburgh PA at WPGH-TV as the anchor for the 10 p.m newscast. She was thrilled to join WXYZ-TV in Detroit since it reminds her of her childhood and where she was born.

In 2015, Carolyn was among a handful of journalists selected from across the country and the only news anchor in Michigan to be invited to the White House to interview President Obama about the Iran Nuclear Deal. It was one of the proudest moments of her career because not many journalists can say they were lucky enough to interview a sitting president one-on-one.
Additional memorable moments in broadcasting include interviewing Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Walters, and NBA legends Michael Jordan and Earvin “Magic” Johnson. Carolyn has covered everything from hurricanes in North Carolina to former South African President Nelson Mandela’s first visit to Michigan after he was freed from prison.
Carolyn’s most rewarding stories, however, are those that have helped change the lives of our viewers; whether offering free flu shots during a national shortage or finding free mammogram test sites for women in need.
Carolyn has been named “Woman of the Year” by the YWCA of Western Wayne County. She has also been honored by the Detroit City Council and Detroit Urban League for her community and volunteer work in the Metro Detroit area. One of Carolyn’s passions is speaking out against domestic violence at numerous area events. She has also reached out and personally helped many victims of domestic violence.
Carolyn has received many professional accolades for her reporting and anchoring work at 7 Action News. She is a 13-time Emmy Award winner, including three Emmys for Best News Anchor. She has also been honored by the Associated Press, the Michigan Association of Broadcasters, and given a special tribute by the Karmanos Cancer Institute as one of their “Heroes of Breast Cancer.”
Before Carolyn embarked on a career in TV news, she dreamt of dancing on Broadway. As a lifelong dancer, she performed in both the Michigan State Dance Company and the MSU Motion Dance Team before she graduated.

Carolyn was MIA for more than a month, but she kept her viewers and followers informed of her whereabouts. To notify, she was on her medical leave because of her surgery.
Clifford is a mother of three and always knew that she had fibroids. But what she didn’t know is that she had a tumor growing inside of her.
She first noticed her swollen belly after she saw herself on TV. But she opted to ignore just thinking that as a result of her middle-age spread, and her being the mother of three children. However, she called Dr. Shukri David, after she faced several problems regarding her stomach and bladder. She was called by the doctor immediately.
Further, an ultrasound revealed that Clifford had a fibroid tumor about the size of a football and several smaller ones that were on the verge to destroy her kidneys, so that had to be removed immediately.
The 48-year-old announced on March 16, that she had fibroid tumors inside her and explained how many middle-aged women had them. Clifford also took it to Facebook on March 17, to tell her fans and viewers about her condition. On a post, she stated that she is not leaving WXYZ or retiring, rather, she is only going to be away for a while because of her health situation.
Dr. Nishan Chobanian performed her surgery at the Providence Park Hospital on March 19. She stayed home to recover from the surgery, and as per her recent tests, everything is normal.
Clifford came back to work on April 23, 2018, and her colleagues surprised her on the first day back at work. Without a doubt, her fans are thrilled to see the charming anchor back in action.
