On Tuesday, September 8, 2020, Des Coleman made his first appearance on the ITV breakfast show and it wasn’t long before he was trading light-hearted insults with anchorman Piers Morgan.
Actually, it was so clear that Piers Morgan was not in the best mood as he rushed onto Good Morning Britain after a weather forecast ended early.
The grumpy host, 55, ended up clashing with weather presenter Des Coleman finished the forecast early.
It had been Des’ first day, but he didn’t escape Piers’ wrath after the GMB host was seen tucking his shirt into his trousers.
As he and Susanna Reid were heard announcing what was coming up on the program, the camera cut short (a technical glitch) forcing Piers to rush to his seat early without having his microphone clipped properly.
The presenter then advised his new colleague: ‘Des, rule one mate: you don’t end early. While I’m in make-up being beautified, you don’t end early. ‘“Des the weather guy has ended early”, I’m like what? Why’s he done that? Just keep talking about the weather.’
Always the voice of reason, Susanna Reid interjected: ‘Do not blame the weather presenter, it’s his first day. It’s not his fault. The camera shot froze which meant…’ Des then reappeared on camera laughing before he said: ‘Susanna, I love you. Piers, it’s my first day and you can’t even cut a young man, a good-looking guy a break. What’s wrong with you?”
Clearly, Piers doesn’t think much of Des’ ‘good looks’ as he replied: ‘So far, all you’ve done is call yourself good-looking. ‘One rule: A, stop talking.
Now I’ve heard you talking twice in the past half hour and all you’ve done is call yourself good-looking, beautiful, people that go on about how good-looking they are, they speak too much.’
Piers then suddenly realized Des was a familiar face and exclaimed: ‘You were on EastEnders! Des then proudly recalled his days on the BBC One soap, starring as wideboy Lenny Wallace who was friends with Ricky and Bianca Butcher, played by Sid Owen and Patsy Palmer respectively.
He played Lenny for three years from 1996 until 1999. ‘EastEnders was a big part of my career,’ Des reflected fondly. ‘Working with Barbra Windsor… I’ve got some really good memories,’ he added. Viewers seemed to love Des as one tweeted: ‘@DESCOLEMAN come on Des, get @piersmorgan
