Euna Lee (Hangul: 리유나) is a Korean-American journalist. She was raised in South Korea before she proceeded for studies at the US-based Academy of Art University. Since 2005, she has worked for Current TV.
Lee and a fellow journalist Laura Ling were detained in North Korea after they had crossed into the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea without a visa. She had been working as a producer on a documentary about North Korean defectors when she was arrested. She was found guilty of illegal entry and sentenced to 12 years of hard labor imprisonment in 2009.
Euna Lee was later pardoned by former U.S. President Bill Clinton during a special humanitarian visit. She also currently holds American Citizenship.
