She is widely known for a series of hit duets with Jim Ed Brown. Many of their duets reached the U.S. country singles top ten during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
In 1976, Cornelius released her first solo album, “I’m Just a Country Girl.” Her first hit single, “Looking Back to See,” was released in 1977. However, it was her duets with Jim Ed Brown that brought her the most success.
Their first duet, “I Don’t Want to Have to Marry You,” was released in 1978 and reached number one on the U.S. country singles chart. They followed up with a string of hits, including “Lying in Love with You,” “Morning Comes Too Early,” and “Don’t Bother to Knock.”
Helen discovered she could sing after she formed a singing trio with her sisters Judy and Sharon. She then began touring on her own with a backup band known as, The Crossroads.
