Helen Whately Career
Before she ventured into politics, she had a number of jobs. She trained as a management accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers. She went on to work at AOL. Here she was responsible for the running of a business unit, negotiating deals for AOL Europe.
She established a career in healthcare consultancy. She has been working with NHS hospitals for nearly a decade. To this effort, she has helped in the improvement of care and proper utilization of resources. In addition, she has adviced healthcare commissioners and regulators. She has also worked on healthcare policy.
She has been involved in a number of charitable works, often volunteering and offering advice. She has been a school governor. She vied for the MP seat of the Kingston & Surbiton constituency in the 2010 general election. She however lost. She worked as an engagement manager for McKinsey & Company from 2007 to 2015. She worked in the firm’s healthcare division.
She was selected by the Conservative Party in February of 2015 to vie for the Faversham and Mid Kent seat. She was elected MP in the 2015 general election, having gotten 24,895 votes. Her constituency is considered by some as a safe seat as it has been represented by a Conservative MP since its creation in 1997. Her maiden speech, which she gave on the 2nd of June, mainly focused on the National Health Service.

She voted in support of the government’s motion to invoke Article 50, a move that would formally start the Brexit process. This was in February of 2017. She explained her reason for this as honouring the outcome of the referendum.
She held her seat in the 2017 general election that took place in June. Following this, she went on to become the PPS to Justine Greening, Secretary of State for Education and Minister for Women and Equalities. In addition, she became the chair of the APPG for Health and Personalised Medicine. This was in addition to the two APPG’s she still chaired.
She was appointed PPS to Brandon Lewis, Conservative Party Chairman and Minister without portfolio. This appointment came in January of 2018.
She became Vice Chairman of the Conservative Party for Women on the 27th of July in 2018.
She has sat on the Health and Social Care Committee in the House of Commons.
