Jason’s musical beginnings were as a member of his family’s gospel music group, the Singing Sellers, which toured throughout the Western United States. During hs teen years, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee. He then persuaded Vince Gill to allow him to play bass guitar in Gill’s road band when the band’s regular bassist was unavailable. He was recommended to Billy Joe Royal by Gill. Jason later moved to Ricky Skagga’ road band, also becoming a songwriter and road manager for Skaggs. While with Skaggs, he also worked on his songwriting skills, and had songs recorded by Pam Tillis, Lonestar and Wade Hayes.
In 1997, Jason was signed to BNA Records. He released his debut single “I’m Your Man.” This song, which peaked at number 37 on the country charts, was the first of three singles from his debut album, also entitled I’m Your Man. He also released “That Does It” and “This Small Divide”, the latter a duet with Martina McBride. Jason co-wrote “There’s No Gift” with Australian Gina Jeffreys, which was included on her 1999 christmas album, Christmas Wish.

A Matter of Time is the second and final album released by Jason. Its title track was a Top 40 hit for him on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts in 1999. One day after the album’s release, Sellers exited BNA Records’ roster.

The track “That’s Not Her Picture” was later recorded by John Michael Montgomery on his 2000 album Brand New Me, while “Bad Case of Missing You” would later be recorded by The Oak Ridge Boys on their 2004 album The Journey, from which it was released as a single.
“Every Fire” was originally recorded by Shenandoah on its 1994 album In the Vicinity of the Heart. “Golden Ring” is a cover version of the George Jones and Tammy Wynette duet that went to Number One in 1976.
Critical reception
Philip van Vleck of Allmusic gave the album four-and-a-half stars out of five, saying “It’s the uptempo tracks that have made this project an effort that supersedes his first album in every aspect.”
