He attended DuPont High School (since consolidated into the current Riverside High School) in Dupont City, where he played high school basketball for the DuPont Panthers in 1994, and led his school team to the state championship before being conquered by Martinsburg in the final.

Williams played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a point guard for twelve seasons during the late 1990s and 2000s. He won an NBA championship in 2006, as the starting point guard for the Miami Heat, and throughout his career, he was nicknamed “White Chocolate” due to his flashy style of playing basketball.
Also, he made himself suitable for the NBA Draft after he was stopped from playing for the University of Florida. He became the seventh overall choice by the Sacramento Kings during the 1998 NBA draft, and following his ongoing injuries of over a decade, he announced on 26 September 2008 his retirement from the NBA. Regardless, he announced he would try to return to the NBA in February 2009 and officially retired from the NBA on 18 April 2011.
