Mirza won the Hackney Empire East West Quest in 1993, after which he went solo into stand-up comedy and hasn’t looked back since. He’s written for magazines and is well-known on the London comedy scene. At the Edinburgh Festival in 1995, he was a finalist in the BBC Open Mic Award for The Stand Up Show.
The same year (1995), he co-starred in a full-length show called ‘Haggis & Curry’ with Scottish comedian Brian Higgins. He quit his job as a structural engineer after that initial success and began working as a full-time stand-up comedian.
He has worked with and for the ‘One Nation..lnnit!’ Team based at Watermans in Brentford, and has also performed at all of the major comedy clubs, including Jongleurs Comedy Clubs.
He performed his show Walking With Muslims at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2003. The show ‘Walking with Muslims’ aired during the 2003 Iraq War and received widespread acclaim, with Jeff Mirza portraying dictator Saddam Hussein, who was on the run at the time.
He has performed on the London comedy circuit, including Jongleurs and The Comedy Store. He has performed all over the world and is the first British Muslim comedian to perform stand-up comedy in Saudi Arabia, where he sold out shows.
He is regularly involved in interfaith dialogue between various communities and is frequently called upon to lighten up and moderate contentious debates among multi-faith conservatives.
