Verszyla graduated as an Alden Scholar from Allegheny College in Meadville with a degree in Broadcast Communications and English after attending Quigley High School in Baden, PA. Mississippi State University awarded him a bachelor’s degree in meteorology.
Rise to Fame
Verszyla began working for KDKA-TV in May 1996 and has been providing viewers with his local forecast ever since. Jeff can be seen delivering his forecasts on KDKA-TV News at four, five, six, and eleven p.m. weeknights. Jeff, like many weather enthusiasts, is very passionate about the weather and holds high regard for it.
“My job is to inform the residents of my hometown about the potential impact of a weather event so that they can take the necessary precautions to protect their property and, more importantly, their lives.” Jeff is a member of the National Weather Association, the American Meteorological Society, and the International Association of Broadcast Meteorologists.
Verszyla also works as a trained weather spotter for the National Weather Service’s Pittsburgh office. Jeff can be found talking about the weather with area elementary students when he isn’t watching the weather or tracking a storm system.
Every year, the Weather Classroom hits the road to teach children about the fundamentals of weather and forecasting. Jeff began his radio career in Pittsburgh at WVTY-FM (Variety 96) and WRRK-FM (Magic 97), where he was an on-air personality and morning, show producer.
Verszyla transferred from KRGV-TV in Weslaco, Texas, where he forecasted the weather for the morning and noon broadcasts. Jeff received excellent on-the-job severe weather training while in Texas. Every spring, he chased countless “Texas-sized” supercells and covered numerous hurricanes.
