Charlo was born on 19 May 1990, in Lafayette, Louisiana. He attended and graduated from Alief Hastings High School in Houston, Texas. He made his professional debut in 2008.

Charlo started boxing from his early days when he started to follow in his father’s footsteps. He was fortunate enough to get a spot on the 2008 U.S. Olympic team, but he couldn’t continue to play due to a toe injury. The WBC World Middleweight Champion excited his fellow Houston natives by out-boxing and out-brawling Adams over 12 rounds to win a wide unanimous decision Saturday night on SHOWTIME.
WBC World Middleweight Champion and Houston native, he couldn’t have been happier to be fighting at home and the love was reciprocated. A raucous, sell-out crowd of 6,408 at NRG Arena watched Charlo overcome a fearless Brandon Adams to win a wide 12-round unanimous decision.
This was Charlo’s first fight at home since March 2012, when he scored a fifth-round TKO over Sean Wilson. Adams, who won the series five championships of The Contender series, was a far stiffer challenge. Yet Charlo still won comfortably in the main event of the PBC on the SHOWTIME Championship Boxing card.
