Detroit Pistons drafted Salley in the first round of the 1986 NBA Draft from Georgia Tech. He became good friends with Adrian Dantley after he joined the pistons, who taught him appropriate nutrition, how to carry himself off the court, how to exercise, and therefore would always call Dantley ‘The Teacher’.
Sally later became close friends with an American comedian and actor, Eddie Murphey, and would appear in comedy clubs whenever Murphy was performing. He played on two Pistons NBA Championship teams in 1989 and 1990 and is dubbed as one of the Pistons’ all-time leaders in blocked shots.
