Johnny Dawkins is an accomplished American basketball coach and former player who is the head coach for the UCF men’s basketball team. From 2008 until 2016, he was the head coach of Stanford. Johnny was a two-time All-American and national player of the year as a senior in 1986 while at Duke from 1982 until 1986.
Johnny consequently played nine seasons in the National Basketball Association with the San Antonio Spurs (1986 – 1989), Philadelphia 76ers (1989 – 1994), and Detroit Pistons (1994 – 1995). From 1998 to 2008, he worked as an assistant basketball coach at his alma mater, Duke.

Dawkins was born on September 28, 1963, in Washington, D.C., United States of America. He played basketball at Mackin Catholic High School in Washington, D.C. prior registering at Duke University. Tracking his NBA profession, Dawkins moved back to Duke University in 1996, where he operated as an administrative intern in the athletic department and was on the air as an analyst for Duke’s home basketball games.
