Throughout the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic, Ranney has attracted public attention to the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline staff. Ranney pointed out that besides increasing SARS-CoV-2 patient numbers, the protocols, treatment options, and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) references adjusted every day.
