Kuiper attended at Jerome I. Case High School in Racine, Wisconsin, where he played baseball. He later enrolled Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois and attained his undergraduate degree. While at Southern Illinois he was an active member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and his roommate was Dan Radison, a long-time major and minor league coach.

Kuiper’s father owned their 300-acre farm in Sturtevant, Wisconsin, near Racine, until Kuiper’s elder brother sold it in 2018. Sadly, his father, Henry, passed away at the age of 95 in 2019.
