Joy Behar The View
In 1997, Joy became one of the original panel members of the ABC daytime talk shows The View, which was co-created by Barbara Walters. Originally, Joy appeared only on the days when Walters was off, but she ultimately became a permanent co-host. She occasionally hosted a segment called “Joy’s Comedy Corner” in which she presented both established and up-and-coming comedians.
Joy had well-publicized disputes with Star Jones, a former co-host of the program and on March 27, 2006, Jones contacted the show to address a previous operation that she had endured. After talking with the show’s co-hosts, Joy abruptly stated to Jones, “OK, Star. That’s enough about you. On to us. Bye. Keep your tits perky!” Jones then responded, “Even today, you are still a bitch.
Joy and the other co-hosts, Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Sherri Shepherd, and Barbara Walters, won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host, in August 2009, following over a decade of nominations for the show.
On March 7, 2013, it was announced that Joy would be leaving the show at the end of the current season. Speaking to Deadline she said, “It seemed like the right time…You reach a point when you say to yourself, Do I want to keep doing this? There are other things on my plate I want to do — I’ve been writing a play, I’ve been neglecting my standup.” On August 9, 2013, she had her last show in which the program staged a “This Is Your Life” style tribute to Joy.
In 2013, after departing, Joy continued to guest co-host throughout 2014 and 2015, and on August 25, 2015, ABC announced that Joy would return as a regular co-host starting with the premiere of the 19th season on September 8, 2015.
On October 10, 2016, she received a significant amount of criticism for referring to Bill Clinton’s sexual assault accusers as “tramps.” Joy later apologized for the sexual slur shortly afterward.
Behar, on February 13, 2018, accused Vice President Mike Pence of having a mental illness because he stated that he hears Jesus speak to him. Joy later apologized to Pence for what were termed “anti-Christian” remarks.
Joy Behar Show
Behar occasionally filled in as a guest host on Larry King Live, beginning in 2007. On June 11, 2009, she announced that she would be hosting her own news/talk program on CNN’s HLN beginning in the fall of 2009, titled The Joy Behar Show.
She, however, did not leave The View but worked on both shows simultaneously. Despite reportedly being the network’s second-highest-rated show, HLN decided to cancel the talk show after only two years and the final broadcast of The Joy Behar Show aired on December 15, 2011.
Joy Behar Vice President Mike Pence
In March 2018, Joy made “anti-christian” comments against Vice President Pence. Joy had suggested that his religious views made him mentally ill after Pence stated that he hears Jesus speak to him.
Joy Behar and Kid Rock
Behar and singer Kid Rock have been a feud that started way back in April 2017. It all began in the spring of 2017, after Kid Rock’s trip to the White House together with Ted Nugent, and Sarah Palin. While at the White House, they all snapped photos with the POTUS and mockingly posed in front of a portrait of Hilary Clinton.
Both Kid Rock and Ted Nugent have a controversial history, and their visit to the White House made it even more contentious. During Obama’s time in office, Ted called him a “subhuman mongrel” worthy of being “tried for treason and hung” while Kid Rock, on the other hand, had gotten into trouble in the past for posing with the Confederate flag.
When the photo of the three was brought up, Joy Behar posed a rhetorical question to the live studio audience, asking “Is this the saddest day in the history of the White House since the British burned it to the ground in 1814?” and she went to agree with her co-panelist Sara Haines, who pointed out that the three should’ve displayed more class while at the White House.
When in an interview on the Fox and Friends show, Kid Rock talked politics and when asked about the Trump Presidency he went off into a tangent about political correctness ironically, while still urging people to show more love and tolerance for one another.
He said, “It’s so hard for people to get past that we can disagree and still be cordial with each other, and just talk about things without going for each other’s throats and protesting everything. God forbid you to say something a little bit wrong, you’re racist, homophobic, Islamophobic, this, that, and another. People need to calm down [and] get a little less politically correct … I would say, ‘love everybody,’ except I’d say, ‘screw that Joy Behar … b—h.’”
In response to Kid Rock’s comments, Joy said, “What is it about me that he feels the need to say that though?” Joy added. “Who am I? I’m just a comedian on a show. Why doesn’t he go after the big shots? Why me?”
Kid Rock later took to social media to apologize for cursing on live T.V and in his post he expressed that he was upset about comments Joy made on The View and that he didn’t “expect an apology from her or anyone who has choice words” for him.
Joy Behar on Use of Blackface
Joy was under criticism for use of blackface. In 2016, she had displayed a photo of her in the 1970s, at a Halloween party when she was 29 where she said the hair was her own and that she had dressed as a “beautiful African woman.” She also admitted to using makeup to darken her skin for a Halloween costume.
Critics were quick to point out that NBC cut ties with host Megyn Kelly in 2019 after Megyn caused a furor by implying that wearing blackface on Halloween was OK for white people.
Messages seeking comment were not returned from Joy Behar’s agent and the ABC program.
Other celebrities who have been called out for using blackface include Julianne Hough, who in 2012 dressed as characters from Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black,” and “Real Housewives of New York” star LuAnn De Lesseps, who dressed as Diana Ross for Halloween in 2017.
Joy Behar Skin Care
In November 2017, Joy threatened the owners of a company that has been busted for allegedly using “deceptive advertising,” after they used her face to sell skincare products.
The owners had been called out by the Federal Trade Commission for making $179 million in an online market scam. Joy and other celebrities like Dr. Oz, Whoopi Goldberg, and Jennifer Aniston have had their faces used to imply they have endorsed products ranging from diet pills to anti-wrinkle creams.
Joy Behar Controversy
Joy was involved in a controversy after making anti-Christian remarks against Vice President Spence. She suggested that his religious views made him mentally ill after Pence stated that he hears Jesus speak to him. She later apologized.
Joy Behar Donald Trump jr
During an appearance on “The View” on November 7, 2019, Donald Trump Jr. didn’t hesitate.
During the episode, in which Trump Jr. availed on to promote his book “Triggered” accompanied by his girlfriend and Trump adviser Kimberly Guilfoyle, the president’s eldest son faced the co-hosts of “The View” around the table and discussed controversial topics such as his tweet about the federal whistleblower.
Co-host Joy Behar listed some of President Donald Trump’s headline-making behavior.
“(President Trump) called some Mexicans rapists, he attacked the handicapped, he bragged about it,” she said. “We heard the ‘Access’ tape, where he bragged about grabbing women by their genitalia.”
Trump Jr. didn’t take long to reply.
“We’ve all done things that we regret, I mean, if we’re talking about bringing a discourse down, Joy, you’ve worn blackface,” he responded.
“No, I have not,” Behar retorted.
Trump Jr. referred to a video of a 2016 episode of “The View,” which began making the rounds in February 2019. In the clip, Behar addressed years-old photos in which she darkened her skin and dressed up as an African woman.
Joy Behar Tulsi Gabbard
Democratic presidential optimistic Tulsi Gabbard got her opportunity – and actually took it –to retaliate at frequent critics Joy Behar and another podcast of ABC’s The View by disputing in no uncertain terms that she isn’t a useful idiot, a traitor, or a Trojan horse. She left out Meghan McCain’s “Assad apologist,” probably because McCain has recently changed course on Gabbard.
Mainly answering Behar, Gabbard said, “I want to start with something I think is also important about facts because recently on your show here some of you have accused me of being a traitor to my country, a Russian asset, a Trojan horse, or a useful idiot, I think is the term that you used, which basically means that I am naive or lack intelligence.”
Joy Behar and Meghan McCain
Meghan McCain told her “The View” co-host Joy Behar in a heated exchange on 18 Feb 2020 that she’s “done a piss-poor job of convincing” her to vote for a Democrat in November’s election.
“I would like to know who you are going to vote for. Who are you voting for?” Behar asked in response.
“Who I vote for is none of your business!” McCain retorted. “But I am not voting for Trump and I sure as hell am not voting for Bloomberg!”
“So you’re not going to vote. So you’re not going to vote. You’re not voting for Trump and you’re not voting for a Democrat. You said that” Behar shot back.
“You know, you guys have done a piss-poor job of convincing me that I should vote for a Democrat,” McCain replied as fellow co-host Whoopi Goldberg quickly cut to a commercial break.
Joy Behar Sunglasses, Eyes
After not appearing on the show back in June 2019, The View star Joy Behar showed up wearing cat-eyed Gucci sunnies — and not just because she felt like changing up her look.
As Joy explained at the beginning of that day’s episode, she underwent cataract surgery on her left eye. The operation replaces the eye lens and, as per Mayo Clinic, mostly replaces it with a new artificial one.
After having cataract surgery, it’s common for doctors to ask their patients when all of their eyes are healed, which usually takes one to three months, you’ll likely get a final eyeglass prescription.
