She attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in May 1990. She then enrolled at Wayne State University Law School in Detroit, Michigan, where she received a Juris Doctor in May 1993.

After graduating from law school, Lauren also pursued her creative passions and began designing professionally. Lauren relocated to New York City in 1999, determined to establish herself as an entertainer. Lake began securing jobs singing background for multi-platinum selling artists, such as Mary J. Blige, Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, among others.
