Black was discovered by Warner/Chappell Music at the age of 19 who instantly signed her. Shortly after, she was wooed by Universal Music Canada where she presented a deal to help push her career. Black capitalized on these options, which saw her garner her first Juno Award nomination in 1997 and continue to be nominated almost every year thereafter as well as having the opportunities to cooperate with and/or write for other famous artists such as Destiny’s Child, Sean Paul, Kardinal Offishall, and Nas.
