Keenan Kampa is an American actress and dancer. She is widely known as the first American to join the Russian company Mariinsky Ballet. She would leave Mariinsky behind, and later star in the film High Strung. Kampa is also known for her appearances in Swan Lake 3D, Jerome Lejeune, and in The Jimmy Star Show with Ron Russell. Kampa was born on 3 February 1989, in Washington, D.C. She joined Reston Conservatory Ballet when she was young and she took her formal dancing training there. During her early teens, she got enrolled at American Ballet Theatre’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School and Boston Ballet where she studied full-time ballet.

Kampa started dancing at the age of four. From 2003 to 2004, she was part of the Boston Ballet’s Summer Dance Program. In 2005 and 2006 Keenan participated in the American Ballet Theater’s summer intensive program on a scholarship. She entered the National Youth Ballet Competition in 2006 and won a gold medal.
In 2007, when Kampa was eighteen years old, she was invited to study at the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. The first American to be admitted to that academy. After three years, she graduated at the top of her class and with a Russian diploma.
Kampa accepted a contract with the Boston Ballet after two seasons. She was invited to dance with the Mariinsky Theatre, becoming the first American in history to do so. Kampa returned to the United States in 2014 for hip surgery. She planned to return to Russia but decided to remain in the United States.

Boston Ballet
Keena began her ballet training under director Julia Cziller Redick at the Reston Conservatory Ballet which was founded in 1972 and is considered to be a premier dance school in the D.C. area, located in Reston, Virginia. Already by the age of 14, Keena was attending ballet training programs in the summer.
Also during her youth, she was offered the opportunity to study ballet full time at other prestigious dance academies such as Boston Ballet and American Ballet Theatre Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School for the possibility of becoming a professional dancer. While being devoted to both school and ballet, Keenan became an award-winning ballet dancer early on.
In 2006, she competed in the USA National Youth Ballet and received a gold medal. She also won the Russian Pointe Model Search award that year. In 2007, she was a semi-finalist at Switzerland’s Prix de Lausanne International ballet competition.
