Leigh initially joined WOUB-TV in 1999 as a reporter. The same year, she also joined Ohio University for BSJ in Broadcast Journalism. While working on the network, she anchored newscasts of 6:30 PM and also reported the daily news.
Mills joined NBC 15 News on September 17th, 2003 and she has been there since then. She spent 11 of her years as the 5, 6 and 10 pm news anchor before she adjusted her schedule so that she could have more time with her two boys. The adjustments took place in 2017.
In 2005, Leigh Mills was the 5 pm and 10 pm reporter and a weekend anchor back in 2004. In 2003, she was a general assignment reporter. She moved from Ohio to Madison where she spent 4 years as a reporter, anchor, producer, and she would sometimes take the photography role and editor at WOUB-TV in Athens, Ohio.
Leigh has also worked at a Government Channel in Athens where she was the host of an election show. She used to cover the city government news.
