While in high school and university, Gold aspired to work in finance. From March to August 2006, while at NYU, he began working as an intern for The Carlyle Group, multinational private equity, alternative asset management, and financial services corporation, in their Infrastructure Fund. He offered analytically and research support for full-time employees.

While at TOWN Residential, he began to build his own team called The Gold Group which soon grew to seven employees.
During his time at TOWN from August 2013 to April 2018, Steve Gold sold over $500 million of real estate.
