After graduating from campus in 2006, Melissa sent out video resumes to 76 different companies but never found any work. She started working nights as a waitress at a nightclub. During the day, she took an internship with North American Media Group’s “North American Hunter” Television in Minnetonka, 150 miles (240 km) away from where she lived. After 4 months, she became a full-time producer for the show.

At first, she did camera work and gave on-camera archery tips. Later, she started filming and editing her own hunts to be aired for free. After some time, she left the channel and founded her own production company called Deadly Passions Productions. In the company, she edited and did post-production work for hunting television shows including Dangerous Game.

She also created online instructional videos, led seminars on hunting at sports shows, managed social media, and wrote magazine articles. In early 2012, she returned to North American Hunter as a host. She also did a five-day-a-week video series called “‘My Take’ with Melissa Bachman”. By March, the same year, she took the world record for a red stag shot by a female archer in a New Zealand hunt.

The hunt aired on “My Take” and on “Winchester Deadly Passion”. In July the same year, her show, “Winchester Deadly Passion”, also started airing on the Pursuit Channel. Two years later, the show also aired on the Sportsman Channel. In the show, Melissa travels the world hunting animals using rifles, bows, or shotguns.

She stars in the program and also edits it herself. She works around 200 days a year in the field, switching between two cameramen who need more time off. In 2014, she added a clothing line with the program. The year after, she brought a jewelry line based on ammunition.
