August Alsina (Full name – August Anthony Alsina Jr.) is an American recording artist from New Orleans signed to Def Jam Recordings. He was born on September 3, 1992. Alsina is best known for his single “I Luv This Shit” with Trinidad James. His debut studio album Testimony was released on April 15, 2014.
Alsina is a man of average stature, he also appears to be quite tall in stature in his photos. He stands at a height of 6 feet o in (1.83 m) and weighs 79 kg.
Alsina was born on September 3, 1992, in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. He began his career by posting videos on YouTube in 2007 at age 14, starting with a cover of Hypothetically by Lyfe Jennings. Alsina is 27 years old in 2019.

Alsina was born in New Orleans to his mother Sheila Alsina and his father August Anthony Alsina Sr. Alsina’s father then died. At some point, Alsina was kicked out after disagreements with his mother. On August 31, 2010, after his older brother, Melvin La’Branch III, was shot and killed, Alsina became more committed to his music, and relocated to Atlanta in 2011.
Melvin La’Branch III was only 24 years when he died. His other siblings are; brother, Travis La’Branch, sister Netia La’Branch, and brother Jamal La’Branch.
Currently, according to the records available, Alsina is single. His first public relationship was with Analicia Chaves (model). Alsina started dating the hip-hop model in April of 2014 where they dated only for 2 months and ended their relationship in June of 2014. Later in the same year, he was rumored to be dating another glamour model Kayla Phillips. Alsina has also been in relationships with Miracle Watts (2015 – 2016).
Alsina claimed he was in a years-long relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith while she was still married to Will Smith, the actress issued a denial of the allegations.
He supposedly insisted that he was romantically involved with the actress, including the claim that her husband gave Alsina his “blessing,” Jada’s reps called the claims “absolutely not true.”
The headline-making assertions surfaced on 1st July in an interview between Alsina and Angela Yee, published on YouTube.

“Here’s what I’ll say,” Alsina started in response. “People can have whatever ideas that they like, but what I’m not ok with is my character being in question, when certain things are questionable that I know is not me or that I know I haven’t done.”
He proceeded, “Contrary to what some people believe, I’m not a troublemaker. I don’t like drama. Drama actually makes me nauseous…I also don’t think that it’s ever important for people to know what I do, who I sleep with, who I date.”
However, the singer explained, “In this instance, it’s very different because as I said, there’s so many people that are side-eyeing me, looking at me questionable about it. I’ve lost money, friendships, relationships behind it and I think it’s because people don’t necessarily know the truth, but I’ve never done anything wrong. I love those people.”
Obviously referring to Jada and Will, he continued, “I don’t have a bad thing to say about them. They are beautiful people.”
The performer said he didn’t have a choice but to express his truth after his life and wellness were being affected.
“I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership that they’ve spoken on several times and it not involving romanticism,” he alleged. “He gave me his blessing and I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life and I truly and really, really deeply loved and have a ton of love for her. I devoted myself to it. I gave my full self to it so much so to the point that I can die right now and be ok with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody.”
Alsina proceeded to empty his heart out, telling Yee, “I really loved a person, I experienced that. I know what that feels like and some people never get that in this lifetime, so I know that I’m completely blessed.”
As for why he stayed silent about the alleged relationship, “I never want to be the person to cause confusion because I love these people,” he stated. “I really genuinely do and I have literally never been in love in that kind of a way, so much so that being intertwined in that way—walking away from it butchered me.”
Alsina also stated that the alleged split “probably will be the hardest thing that I’ve ever experienced in this lifetime.”
“I want to honor myself and I want to honor my authenticity,” Alsina said. “If honoring my authenticity means you hate me, stone me, shoot me, crucify me, whatever—bury me an honest man.”
August has a daughter named Amaiya, whom he calls her princess. However, August is not her biological father in real. Amaiya is actually August’s niece, daughter of his brother Melvin LaBranch III, who was shot dead in 2010. Before the death of his brother, Melvin was blessed with three daughters, among which Amaiya is one.
Alsina suffers from an autoimmune disease that affects his liver. He terrified fans in 2014 when he collapsed while on stage in New York. In 2015 he revealed he had to have surgery on his eye due to an eye disease that was causing him to go blind. It was not immediately clear if the incidents had to do with his autoimmune disease.
Nonetheless, Alsina doesn’t want his fans or anyone to look at him differently because of his illness.
“Reality is that I’m sick all the time. I don’t really like to talk about it because I’m not looking for anybody’s sympathy. Don’t treat me like I’m a f-—ing cancer patient, because I’m not,” August Alsina said in the Instagram post.
In early July 2019, the singer was hospitalized after he woke up one morning and said he wasn’t able to walk or feel his legs due to nerve damage throughout his body.
August shared a video from his hospital bed offering an update on his health after he missed his Essence Festival performance. After canceling the performance at an Essence Festival event in New Orleans, the R&B crooner took to Instagram to update fans on his condition, which led to his hospitalization. August Alsina recalled while sitting in his hospital bed, the scary moment when he was temporarily paralyzed.
“I woke up one day and wasn’t able to walk, couldn’t feel my legs, and my doctor ended up admitting me into the hospital,” he revealed.
Alsina’s music falls generally into the Alternative R&B category that predominantly involves fusions with Hip-hop. Usher and Lyfe Jennings are his musical influences.
Currently, it has been revealed that Alsina is working on his third studio album.
