Her first commercially released work was background vocals on Pat Green’s debut album, Dance hall Dreamer, produced by her father Lloyd Maines and released in 1995. Maines joined the all-female country music band, the Dixie Chicks, which had been performing since 1989, but which had been unsuccessful in gaining more than local attention, she replaced the lead singer Laura Lynch and she play guitar and bass in the band.
Maines was a primary songwriter on all 14 tracks of the bands 2006 album Taking the Long Way which peaked on the Billboard 200 chart at No. 1. that made the band won the songwriting Grammy Award, for Song of the Year. Lead Balloon is a British television series produced by Open Mike Productions for BBC Four. The series was created and is co-written by comedian Jack Dee and Pete Sinclair. It stars Dee as Rick Spleen, a cynical and misanthropic comedian whose life is plagued by petty annoyances, disappointments, and embarrassments. Raquel Cassidy, Sean Power, and Tony Gardner also star. The first series of six episodes was broadcast on BBC Four in 2006, with the first episode achieving the highest ratings for a comedy on the channel.
