Hamlin was born on 30 October 1951, in Pasadena, California, United States. He went to Flintridge Preparatory School and afterward joined The Hill School, a private boarding school in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. While there, he played soccer and lacrosse and acted in the school’s musicals and plays.

Furthermore, he attended the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts where he studied and attended classes. Nonetheless, he joined the University of California, Berkeley, where he became an alumnus of the Theta Zeta chapter of the national fraternity Delta Kappa Epsilon. Prior to this, he also became the president in the year 1972.

Most importantly, he enrolled in Yale University, where he graduated with a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in drama and psychology in 1974. In addition to this, he went to the American Conservatory Theatre’s advanced actor training program. Citing his time there, he was awarded a Master of Fine Arts degree in acting in 1976.

Rise To Fame

Hamlin showed up in the 1976 TV creation of Taming of the Shrew and had the title job in the 1979 TV miniseries Studs Lonigan. He was featured in the Film with George C. Scott in 1978, for which he got his first Golden Globe Award assignment.
