J was born Arnez Johnson in 1966 in Atlanta, a City in Georgia, United States. He was enrolled at Aurora High School, where he was both a strong professional basketball prospect and a baseball star at third base. Though he was the best in Baseball, a criminal act that J declined to discuss set him in prison for a year in the early 1980s and stirred his opportunities of winning a place with the Philadelphia Phillies organization.

After his release from prison, J thought about his shattered dreams of sports fame and sank into what he explained as a two-year depression. In the late 1980s, regardless, he put his life back together, going through training and landing a position as a Continental Airlines flight attendant. However, He made his comedy debut at the Comedy Act in 1990.

Rise to Fame

J rose to fame for his performances on the series Comics Unleashed and in specials such as All-Star Comedy Jam: Live from South Beach. Also, He stars in his 2013 comedy special Racially Motivated. Further, J toured with actor Billy Dee Williams in a play named The Maintenance Man, recreating a nightclub owner, and he performed as an opening act for the artist previously known as Prince.

In 1995, J was recruited by scouts for the famed Harlem Globetrotters basketball team. In 1996 he entered the team, but three months thereafter a knee injury ended his Globetrotters profession. Subsequently, J transferred to Los Angeles, where he starred in the independent movie Up Against the 8-Ball.
